A popular Facebook meme asks a user’s friends to recall how they met that user and then to paste the same query in their own status. We study the spread of this particular meme, which engaged millions of Facebook users, and the insights into relationship formation that the resulting compilation of answers provides. We describe the locations, relationships, and circumstances that contribute to formations of friendships that are represented
